Minister Beverly Ann Butterworth Lyons is an Asbury Park, New Jersey native. She is the seventh child of the late Rev. Ernest W. and Mrs. Nellie R. Hayes Butterworth, Sr. An incredible woman of God, Minister Lyons is an esteemed Bible scholar and teacher. For many years she functioned as a Sunday school teacher, worship leader, and ministered to inmates at the Monmouth County Correctional Center in Freehold, New Jersey. Minister Lyons also faithfully served as church administrator at The Power of Christ’s Gospel Ministries, Inc. in Long Branch, New Jersey from its birth until its season of ministry ended in 2015 — which was well over 40 years. Additionally, she taught the fourth through sixth grades, and students in the high school grades at The Power of Christ’s Gospel Academy.
Minister Lyons effortlessly flows in the Holy Spirit, especially in the spiritual gift of help, which is her passion. A highly effective intercessor, she is a formidable spiritual combatant and currently serves with Summit of Light in this position, as well as on its governing body. Also, she is a current member of the Bethel AME Church, Asbury Park, NJ, and served under her Pastor, Rev. Dr. Danielle L. Hunter in the capacity as Teacher for the Sunday School Adult Class and other areas of assistance as needed.
Minister Lyons attended the Bangs Avenue School (Barack Obama), and a proud 1964 graduate of the Asbury Park High School, Asbury Park Data Processing School and received a Certificate in Data Processing. She also completed coursework at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey, 1 year Liberal Arts-Education, 1986.
A lifelong resident of Asbury Park, Minister Lyons is the mother of five accomplished adult children; Karen Denise, Kelly Marie, Jason Vincent (Stefanie) Marc David (Katherine), and Rodney Vincent, Jr (Grace); grandmother of six adorable grandchildren; Alicia Marie(Lyons) Bunch (Jordan), Christopher Kyle Lyons, Kayla Taylor Lyons, Anthony Vincent Lyons, Dante Vincent Lyons, and Mason Vincent Patterson; and two great-grand, Caleb Elias Chokif and Joie Rose Bunch.
Possessing a strong service foundation, these are the volunteer positions that she continues to actively hold:
• Community-Westside Citizens United-member/helper
• Statewide Education Organizing Committee-Board President - Advocacy for Parent/Family Education Literacy in Equal Education
• Race Relations Discussion Group-Asbury Tower Senior Living Residence, Asbury Park, NJ/Co-Facilitator. Discussion about Racism Resolutions in individuals and then in our communities.
• Monmouth County Boys and Girls Club-Asbury Park Chapter-help introduce our Youth in having discussions about their interaction with our local Police and Mayor
• Provide transportation for individuals to Doctor/Dentist/Specialists Appointments and other incidental trips as driver and liaison for the patient and their Doctor as needed.
• Assist individuals in obtaining answers to questions about City housing, clothing, pantry locations, social service agencies, etc.
